Why is your signature color deep violet?

Deep violet is the colour of royalty and spirituality. It represents elegance, luxury, mystery and higher consciousness. Violet also represents the crown chakra, which is your seventh chakra, located at the top of your head.

This chakra is responsible for increased spiritual awareness and universal consciousness, heightened sense of intuition and self-awareness.

When I was creating Adisa May, I spent a lot of time in deep meditative states with my amethyst crystals. The courage I had to leave my career as a lawyer and begin making skincare is something I credit to my connection with Source Consciousness.

It therefore only made sense for me to make the brand colour deep violet, representing the discipline, awareness and intuition involved in bringing Adisa May Skincare to life.

Why is your brand symbol the lavender flower?

Lavender is one of the most loved and treasured flowers on the planet. Its soft purple petals and floral/herbaceous scent is easily recognized by many. Its medicinal uses range from inducing relaxation, reducing anxiety and stress, improving sleep, relieving pain and aiding in wound healing and skin conditions. 

It is also the flower that connects one to their crown chakra. Lavender’s energy is light, expansive, and soothing, allowing us to slow down, decompress and enjoy the moment. Not a day goes by that I don’t take time to inhale its serene and calming aromas. 

Because of lavender’s tranquil qualities and purple hues, it is the flower that best represents everything Adisa May stands for.

Product Questions 

Are all of your ingredients certified organic?

As of now, not all of our ingredients are certified organic.

Some of the essential and carrier oils we use are rare and have arduous cultivation and production requirements, making it difficult to source organically. In addition, there have been significant supply chain disruptions globally, which has made some organic ingredients more difficult to obtain.

Organic certification can also come with significant fees, regulatory hurdles, and can be a lengthy and difficult process, especially for smaller farmers.  In addition, some crops due to crop rotation and location pose difficulty to organic certification as well.

For example, our rose otto essential oil is organically grown in the Valley of Roses in Bulgaria, but does not have organic certification, which prevents us from marketing the oil as certified organic.

Our kakadu plum seed oil is also wildcrafted and due to the nature of the kakadu plum's remote habitat, it makes organic certification difficult.

But rest assured, all of our ingredients are of very high quality and performance. As we continue our sourcing efforts, we are aiming to find certified organic versions of almost all the ingredients we offer where possible.

Do you use essential oils in your products?

All of our products at the moment contain essential oils.

For our facial products, we use a microdose of up to 0.25%, so that even the most sensitive skin is likely to tolerate them.

None of the essential oils we use are phototoxic.

How should I store my products?

Your products need to be stored in a cool, dark and dry environment.

Why is there limited stock of your products?

There are two reasons for the limited stock of our products.

1) We utilize high quality, nutrient dense and some rare natural ingredients. We refuse to dilute our potions with cheaply refined and poor quality oils. Adisa May is solely owned and funded by our founder, which therefore requires us to source our ingredients in smaller batches.

2) Our products are hand-crafted and made in small batches by the Adisa May Skincare team. We want our products to arrive to you as fresh as possible. This delicate manufacturing process requires time and dedication to ensure our products meet our high standard of quality before they get to you.

Why is there batch variation with your products?

Due to the natural and handcrafted nature of our products, the batches can have small variations from time to time. These small variations generally can be in scent, texture and colour.

Batch variation can have for a multitude of reasons. In our case, it mainly has to do with our suppliers and their batches at that time.

For example, some batches of ingredients we receive will have stronger scents, heavy or lighter textures and deeper/lighter colours. This isn't uncommon with unrefined and organic ingredients. Different growing conditions and the ripeness of the ingredient can slightly alter batches.

In addition, because of the handcrafted nature of our products, some batches may be slightly different due to our manufacturing process.

Rest assured though, all of our ingredients are sourced with care and quality.

When was my product manufactured?

At the bottom of every product we have placed a sticker which contains the products batch number and date of manufacturing.

Do you test on animals?

No.

Are your products vegan?

Not completely. Our soothing radiance balm contains beeswax.

Are your products gluten free?

Yes. This includes our oat oil which is gluten free and is not manufactured on processing equipment that comes in contact with gluten or products containing gluten.

How do we preserve our products?

Because our line is currently waterless our products do not require a preservative.

The only thing our products require to prevent oxidation and rancidness is an antioxidant. We use rosemary CO2 extract which is very efficient at stabilizing and extending the shelf life of oil based products.

Can I use your products even if I don't have sensitive skin?

Yes.

While our products are formulated to be non-irritating for those with sensitivities, we utilize efficacious and nutrient dense ingredients that would benefit any skin type.

Are your products suitable for men?

Yes. We create products to nourish, repair and protect the skin, regardless of one's sex.

Skincare Questions 

Are essential oils safe for skin use?

In short: yes, some are.

With that, essential oils are highly concentrated and potent medicinal compounds extracted from various parts of plants such as herbs, bark, seeds, leaves and flowers.

They should never be applied onto the skin undiluted. Many clinical studies that determined essential oils cause sensitized reactions to the skin were done in extremely high concentrations and placed on the skin undiluted.

With that, essential oils must be handled with respect and knowledge as they are some of Mother Earth's most potent form of topical medicine.

We source our essentials oils from outstanding and reputable suppliers. We only use essential oils that have been steam-distilled or cold pressed, and have certificates of authentication. We have also come to understand essential oils and after working closely with them, we've determined certain essentials oil perform exceptionally well on the skin when diluted and microdosed.

How long before I see results?

For optimal results we encourage our customers to use our products between 60 to 90 days.

With that some results may be instant. For example after using Soothing Radiance, you'll likely notice your skin feel very soothed, smooth and moisturized.

If you are transitioning from conventional skincare or even a "clean" skincare routine that heavily relied on emulsifiers, preservatives, and stripping agents, your skin's oil production, skin barrier and skin microbiome could be altered. There may be an adjustment period at the beginning for your skin, while oil production re-balances, the microbiome rebuilds and the skin barrier repairs itself.

Lastly, we encourage you to use your intuition. Every product may not be a slam dunk for your skin and that's okay too. We are here to support you and encourage you to reach out with any questions!
